Paul Pogba eyes Juventus reunion?

August 7, 2020 at 6:51 pm

Having batted his eyelids at Real Madrid for the last two seasons, it looks like Paul Pogba might make a different move. The France international has been one of the best players in the world at times, though rarely in the red of Manchester United. However, it looks like the Red Devils star is still more than highly rated enough back in his former club, Juventus.

The Turin-based giants are seemingly desperate to bring Pogba back and finish the uncompleted business of his previous stint. Having lost the UEFA Champions Final towards the end of his Juventus spell, Pogba has made it clear that he would like to win the trophy again. And with his time at United almost certain to end in the summer, a move back to Juventus seems more like a realistic possibility.

And with Real Madrid seemingly looking elsewhere to try and spread their budget out a touch further, a move back to Turin has just become that bit more likely. For now, though, it’s hard to say for sure what will happen next. The uncertainty caused by the 2020 COVID-19 outbreak means that it would be very hard indeed for any club to commit to a mass expenditure of funds.

For Pogba, though, leaving United is the priority. That’s been the angle around the player for some time now, and a move to UEFA Champions League giants like Juventus, as opposed to United who are still trying to return to the top table, would make a very wise decision.

It’s for this reason that we expect Pogba to be moving on, and most likely back to Italy. The links are strong, and the player himself seems to desire a return to Italy if various reports are to be believed. As ever, then, the discussion comes down to price; can Juventus give United a price they would take?

Emre Can

Frankfurt-born star Emre Can is, without doubt, one of the most interesting players in the Premier League. With a unique combination of raw power and intensive tactical awareness, only injuries and contract uncertainty has stopped Can from establishing himself among the very best in the league. Still in his early 20s, though, the Liverpool man has all the time in the world to find that extra verve and consistency in both fitness and form.

With a level of power when moving with the ball that can make him resemble a locomotive, Can has long been a player of immense repute due to his physicality. Linked regularly to making a return to Germany with Bayern or to head to Turin and play for Juventus, he’s a player lauded for tactical acumen and a rich understanding of the game in front of him.

Over the years at Anfield, he’s gone through extensive ups and down, often caused by managerial misuse under Brendan Rodgers or injury latterly under Jürgen Klopp. However, the big German has often laid the foundations for his uniquely balanced skill-set to thrive, having long been a player who can break down defences with long range shooting, or impose himself on big games.

His ability to read the ball and play in several midfield roles makes him the kind of player that any modern manager would love to work with. Limitless stamina, endless capacity to improve and a never-say-die attitude has helped Can maintain his position as one of the most interesting young midfield talents in the Premier League at present.

Although he may yet move on come the summer of 2018 when his contract expires, it’s safe to say that for the last three seasons Can has regularly been an impressive performer at European level.

Wilfried Ndidi

While the name of Nigerian midfield star Wilfried Ndidi may not be widely known, it will be in time. Seen as a key cog in the Leicester midfield already at the age of 21, the languid midfield controller has quickly established himself as one of the most interesting players in the division to watch.

With a fine blend of athleticism, tactical awareness and technical expertise, Ndidi has shown up as among the best players in the Leicester side under Claude Puel. Already, rumours are circulating that his stay in the Midlands will be cut short, with a move to one of the Premier League leading lights now on the agenda.

While not a regular goal scorer, his tactical expertise and his ability to win aerial duels and ground tackles makes him an excellent performer for counter-attacking sides. Although passing performance could improve, he’s by far young enough to improve even further technically.

Having moved to Leicester for £17m from Belgian outfit Genk following impressive European performances and a stunning brace against Belgian giants Anderlecht, Ndidi has quickly become one of the most competent and consistent performers in the Premier League on a regular basis.

Indeed, his battling performances at home to the likes of Liverpool have helped him to settle into the Premier League and catch the eye of many interested parties. While goals may never be a regular part of his game, his consistency and mental awareness of the full picture developing across the pitch more than makes up for a lack of goals.

Still so young, too, the sky is the limit for one of the most interesting performers in the Premier League. He looks set to burst onto the scene and stay there for a long time to come, such is his potential at this level.

David de Gea

April 15, 2019 at 7:19 pm

David de Gea For many, David de Gea is the best goalkeeper on the planet. While the likes of Jan Oblak and older legends of the game such as Gigi Buffon and Iker Casillas may dispute that, the Madrid-born star is a true icon of the modern game. With a reputation for turning unbelievable shots into routine saves, and reaching shots he has no right to get to, de Gea has long been one of the most promising keepers in the world.

Ever since he broke through into the Atletico Madrid first-team in 2009, he soon became an elite member of the goalkeeping community. From a young age, he was seen as the long-term successor for Casillas himself. At Atletico Madrid, he picked up European honours as he starred in their 2010 UEFA Europa League and Super Cup successes.

In 2011, though, the star was on the move as he became the long-term successor to Edwin van der Sar at Manchester United. As one of the last major signings by Alex Ferguson to be a major success, his then-record move for a goalkeeper in Britain ensured he soon became a legend for the club.

At just 27, the keeper has been one of the best performers of his age group. His incredible flexibility makes him a simple choice for most when looking at the top keepers in the world. In fact, since he arrived in the Premier League, he’s been among the top keepers in the league for making saves per game.

Given he plays for a top club, that shows just how good de Gea is. Often, top club keepers are underworked; the Spaniard manages to help United win many games where they play below their standards but still win. From making wild saves to consistency, he’s the full package for a shot stopping keeper.
