Bukayo Saka

Bukayo Saka Having started his early Arsenal career as an attack-minded left-back, today Bukayo Saka is one of their most prominent players in attack. Capable of playing on either wing with gusto and flair, the 19-year-old has quickly become one of the most important players at Arsenal.

However, despite his rapid rise to the top, it is the rounded nature of his game that ensures that Saka stands out as one of the most complete young players in England at the moment. How far could the youngster go?

What makes Bukayo Saka worth watching?

Despite not being an out and out natural forward, Saka has contributed an impressive 11 goals this year in all competitions. IN doing so, he has taken over 2 shots per game and tends to take the opponent on with aggressive, consistent dribbling. His ability to play in numerous roles within the team, too, is veery impressive. He has even played in the centre of the park a few times, offering Arsenal a versatile youngster who can attack from all angles.

By far and away his best position, though, has been on the right-hand side of attack, transforming the way that Gunners push forward. Really, his ability to attack, play one-twos, dribble past opponents, take opportune shots, and win set pieces is hugely impressive.

Things to improve for Bukayo Saka

For Saka, the main weakness definitely stems from staying in the game. He can flit out the game, to be expected at 19, but also tends to commit the crime of fading out of games quite badly on the defensive end. While this can be improved over time, it is the primary concern for the player.

If Saka can become more consistent defensively then he definitely stands a chance of being a quality box-to-box wide option for Arsenal for a long time to come.

Oriol Romeu

March 13, 2022 at 7:41 pm

Having arrived in England from Barcelona, a huge amount was expected of Oriol Romeu. And despite never really making a meaningful impression at Chelsea, the Spaniard has slowly but surely grown into a key performer for Southampton over the years. Though high un-Spanish in the way he plays, Romeu has long offered a new kind of play that simply is not seen very common in the La Liga game.

For England, though? He has been a perfect addition to a league that needs players who can make up the miles.

What makes Oriol Romeu worth watching?

At 29, Romeu has developed into a mature and intelligent midfielder who can take control of the game with relative ease. He’s become well rated for his accurate passing, often completing in excess of 80% of his passes. On top of that, his crisp passing is improved with the smart use of the ball – he often moves the ball forward quickly, helping to keep pace in the Saints attack.

On top of that, he often wins the ball in the air with ease and tends to be a strong competitor at set plays defensively, offering another useful part to the midfield.

Things to improve for Oriol Romeu

There are many things that could be improved upon for Romeu, mainly his offensive contribution. Though a strong passer of the ball and good at keeping possession progressive enough, he takes less than one shot per game and tends to struggle with making goals or creating attacks.

He also has a habit of giving away dangerous fouls. Though this is likely part of the agreement given how well he plays defensively, it is something that could be improved – and probably plays a role in why Romeu has never moved on beyond the South Coast outfit since he first started to impress.

Jack Harrison

July 14, 2021 at 7:57 pm

As a long-term loanee at Leeds United, Jack Harrison has become a key cog of the Marcelo Bielsa era. His continual return on loan shows that the Argentine rates him as one of his best players, and his consistently excellent form under Bielsa has gone some way to helping show off that commitment to the cause.

Without a doubt, Harrison offers one of the best offensive outlets in the Premier League. While a chance at Manchester City might never arrive, we’re sure the Englishman will always have a home in Yorkshire.

What makes Jack Harrison worth watching?

With 11 goals contributed to in the league so far this year, Harrison has clocked over 2,000 minutes and has performed well for much of the season. Capable of playing off both wings and also from the middle, Harrison offers a versatile attacking option who can flit around the pitch, finding space and opportunity where many other players might have otherwise failed.

His excellent passing is a big bonus, too; unlike many wingers, Harrison focuses on clipped pass esas opposed to booming crosses. He also does have a good killer pass from deep, too, often helping to help set overlapping teammates free.

Things to improve for Jack Harrison

His main weakness is definitely his lack of defensive aggression. Though markedly improved under Bielsa, Harrison has never really made the impression that he can track a runner or really burst a gut to get back into defensive shape. This might be the one thing that would stop him from getting regular gametime at the top of the Premier League.

Attacking flair is no problem, ye while Harrison works hard it would be fair to say that he struggles to really make a big impact on the game when Leeds lose the ball. If that was to be improved, he would be an even better player.

James Maddison

February 11, 2021 at 8:36 pm

For years, the idea of having an English footballer with the natural skillset of James Maddison was seen as fanciful. Ever since he first appeared on the scene, though, the youngster has looked a sublime talent. His first major moment came at Aberdeen, on loan from Norwich City, when he scored a sublime free-kick into Glasgow Rangers. Since then, he’s never really looked back.

What makes James Maddison stand out?

It would be hard to say just one thing that makes James Maddison a stand-out in the league. A creative talent with both assists and goals aplenty, he’s a creative fulcrum for Leicester City. His crossing, his ability to shoot from distance, and his movement makes him so hard to mark. He also links up very well with his teammates, playing tremendously well alongside some very important players.

He’s become a creative spark in the league, and one of the most important players to Leicester. If he was to become injured, they’d lose much of their creativity. He’s a fantastic set-piece taker, too, and tends to make the right choice. For one so young, he’s got a much greater understanding of the game than most would expect.

What does James Maddison need to work on?

However, where Maddison needs to work heavily on his game is defensively. While in the past a player of his creative skills could get by simply coasting, today that is not the case. Even at Leicester, his lack of defensive quality can be a bit of a standout issue.

Before Maddison could take that next step to a major Premier League contender, he’ll need to become better defensively. And he could do with becoming more reliable in the air, too; for someone so naturally fit, strong, and tall, he’s not great in the air. If he can work on these things, though, Maddison would be one of the most complete midfielders in the country.
